It’s now summer here in New York, meaning humid hot days are now a part of the weekly lineup. Humidity is something I haven’t dealt with since my college years; sweating through my clothes, running makeup, etc. After being spoiled by the moderate California weather for the past ten years, I’ve been a little out of whack transitioning my hair and skin back to the East Coast weather! However, if you’re in the same boat, know that this weather transition doesn’t have to suck as hard. There are so many amazing products out right now from cult faves and up and coming brands that get the summer beauty job done. RIGHT.
The Bar None Summer Beauty Products
These products go above and beyond when it comes to summer beauty: they’re well worth the investment. I carry them in my purse or make sure I use them before leaving the house. These should be on your radar or in your digital shopping cart right now.
IGK Hair Laid Back De-Frizz & Anti Static Spray: I bought this on a cold windy day in San Francisco on my way to a photoshoot. It did the trick for static there, and it held it’s own here in New York this past weekend. If you’re curious to know how it holds up on non-straight hair like mine, keep reading. A co-worker of mine came over to get ready at my house before a night out with our team, and she was stressing out trying to keep her curls from frizzing the F out. I handed her this. Hours later, her hair was still intact. Don’t take just my word for it now!
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: Dry lips? Want to wear matte during the summer? Me too. Here’s how: THIS. IS. A. UNICORN. I’ve yet to find a lip mask that actually does something long term. The sheet masks and even Bite Beauty simply scratch the surface but don’t address the bigger issue below the skin. If you’re looking for something more than a paste that gives a temporary solution, you MUST get this. I reapply lip balm 50% less throughout the day because of this product.
IGK Beach Club Texture Spray: I’ve been sampling beach sprays for the past few months (mainly out of pure laziness in doing my hair every day), and between Ouai and IGK, IGK takes the cake. For those of you that have been following for a bit, you know I love the Ouai Wave Spray. However, it just doesn’t give the volume and texture that this spray does. Think soft, light texture like dry shampoo.
Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50: This is a damn life saver and just downright GENIUS. If I miss my sunscreen in a crazed rush while doing makeup, this saves the day. It’s also perfect because you can reapply if you’re on vacation and out all day. It doesn’t feel gross, and actually helps set your makeup too.
Summer Beauty: Gucci Gang Squad
These products are hot AF and for good reason. They WORK. If you’re looking to level up from your basic summer beauty routine, check these recommendations out to change the game.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer: If you find your face is oily and flaky during the summer, it’s likely because your skin is super dry. I started using this in conjunction with my go-to daily peel from the same line and saw a considerable difference in my skin’s texture and oil production after just a few days.
Sunday Riley The Influencer Clean Long Wear Foundation: This stuff is fucking awesome. Think of it as a happy medium between Fenty foundation and Glossier’s Skin Tint, minus the dew. It’s buildable, stays put in humidity, and doesn’t feel like cake on a hot day. I tested it out this weekend while shooting my looks for the next few weeks, and holy OMG. It will be my only foundation all summer. I ran errands all day after, and my face stayed put from start to finish!
IGK Blocked Water Resistant Hair Shield: Suncare is just as important for hair as it is your skin. Especially if you spend a decent amount of money coloring your hair! This new product from my favorite line is the answer to saving your tresses during the summer. I sampled it over the weekend, and loved the consistency of it, and can’t wait to get some later this week!
